Fun with Food WEEK FOUR (Pad Thai)

In week Four we created Pad Thai! We talked about rice noodles, what they are made out of and how to cook them or soak them until they are soft, and the variety of vegetables and protein sources that you can use in the Pad Thai dish. To start we made a sauce with toasted sesame oil, tamari, garlic and coconut oil. We used sweet bell peppers, spinach, tofu, green onions and a lime wedge for the very end. The noodles got tossed in the sauce and everyone put their own cut up veggies in their containers. I think the lime wedge at the very end was the hit!!

Fun with Food ONLINE!!

Friends, there is a LOT going on in our world right now. This is a great time to look for the bright spots, new opportunities, ways we can serve others in our communities, and ways we can support each other. I am creating an online FUN WITH FOOD program to help provide kids (and parents!) with a constructive, educational and fun activity that they can do every day for the next two weeks. My schedule usually includes Personal Chef clients but because that work is on hold I am taking this opportunity to create this new offering. Fun with Food WEEK NINE

For one school, week nine was our last class and we made smoothies and completed our cookbooks. \ For the schools with a few more weeks of classes, we had a VEGAN FOOD TASTING CHALLENGE! One of the many reasons I incorporate this tasting challenge is because so many kids assume that they know what the food will taste like by it's appearance, and whether or not they will like it or not without tasting it. One student tells me every class that he doesn't like any of the foods we are working with, regardless of what we're using, and this class was no different. But I always make him touch his tongue to the food. Turns out he ended up eating a few of them and liking them! (But didn't want to admit he liked any of them.) One of the challenges was that they had to guess what the food was before tasting it, what it was made out of, and also to figure out what all of the food challenges had in common. Answer: All of these foods were made from plants and were vegan. ON
