Fun with Food ONLINE!!

Friends, there is a LOT going on in our world right now. This is a great time to look for the bright spots, new opportunities, ways we can serve others in our communities, and ways we can support each other. I am creating an online FUN WITH FOOD program to help provide kids (and parents!) with a constructive, educational and fun activity that they can do every day for the next two weeks. My schedule usually includes Personal Chef clients but because that work is on hold I am taking this opportunity to create this new offering. Fun with Food WEEK FIVE (measuring and math with Play-Doh)

This week we experimented with Play-Doh and learned how to properly measure ingredients. The challenge was to create four as-close-to-exact-as-possible blobs of 1/4 teaspoons of play doh. Then they squooshed the four blobs into one blob to see if it fit "perfectly" in the 1 teaspoon. Then they took that 1 teaspoon of Play-Doh and created four 1/4 teaspoons from it to see the relationship.This helped with measuring but more importantly it helped them visualize fractions up and down. We did this a few times with different conversions. Ex; 3 teaspoons = 1 tablespoon.

Fun with Food WEEK ONE (Kitchen Rules, Cookbook Creation)

This was the first week of the series of classes of Fun with Food in the Elementary Schools. We discussed the kitchen rules, everyone signed a contract agreeing to the rules, they created covers for their cookbooks, we talked about favorite foods and what we want to do this semester, and assembled their cookbooks. Everyone received a car magnet that you can put on your fridge as well. I challenged the kids to put the magnets on their cars and if I see the car, I will find out who it is and they will receive something in the mail. As a small business owner, I cannot even begin to tell you how happy it makes me to be driving around and see one of my magnets. Thank you! Each week they will receive a recipe or a food-related handout and they will add that to their cookbook. On the day of the last class they will get to take their cookbooks home.
