Fun with Food WEEK FOUR (Pad Thai)

In week Four we created Pad Thai! We talked about rice noodles, what they are made out of and how to cook them or soak them until they are soft, and the variety of vegetables and protein sources that you can use in the Pad Thai dish. To start we made a sauce with toasted sesame oil, tamari, garlic and coconut oil. We used sweet bell peppers, spinach, tofu, green onions and a lime wedge for the very end. The noodles got tossed in the sauce and everyone put their own cut up veggies in their containers. I think the lime wedge at the very end was the hit!!

Fun with Food WEEK THREE (vegetable and herb seeds)

This week we learned about plants. We ate apples (plants) until we could take out the seeds. We looked at the structure of a plant- what part is above the soil and what part grows below. Then we looked at different types of vegetable seeds, comparing the sizes and textures of them and how they are each planted differently. Some get planted in Summer, some in Spring, some 1/4" deep, some 1" deep. Then we talked about how you can eat that vegetable. Everyone got a planting pot and a packet of herb seeds to grow at home. Hopefully they will get planted and watered and loved to see the sprouts pop out of the soil!

Fun with Food ONLINE!!

Friends, there is a LOT going on in our world right now. This is a great time to look for the bright spots, new opportunities, ways we can serve others in our communities, and ways we can support each other. I am creating an online FUN WITH FOOD program to help provide kids (and parents!) with a constructive, educational and fun activity that they can do every day for the next two weeks. My schedule usually includes Personal Chef clients but because that work is on hold I am taking this opportunity to create this new offering. It is available to anyone, so feel free to share with your friends and family that are near and far away!
